The new Lexus NX 300 and NX 300h (available for sale at Lexus of Milwaukee) are two examples of large scale luxury in a compact luxury crossover SUV package. Loaded with standard features, good interior space, an impeccable reputation for reliability and strong resale values, not to mention competitive pricing, the NX models are tops in their segment and tops in the field.Â
But just what is the Lexus NX 300 and its NX 300h brother? Read on while we take a look.
What is the Lexus NX?
One of the most comfortable vehicles on the road today, the Lexus NX is an entry-level CUV from Toyota's Lexus division. From there, buyers will find a compact-sized crossover that can attract an enthusiast driver and one who knows high technology, not to mention high-quality.Â
The Lexus NX 300 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine making 235-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It matches up to a six-speed automatic transmission, which offers good gearing for quick starts. It is delivered with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system, although the NX can be optioned with available all-wheel-drive, too.
If going green is your thing, the Lexus NX 300h gets moving with a 2.5-liter inline-4 cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine connected to an electric motor-generator. The combination of a gas engine and electric motor-generator yields a net 194 horsepower to its all-wheel-drive powertrain. Power delivery occurs through a continuously-variable transmission (CVT) for added fuel economy.
The Lexus NX is roomy enough to carry five passengers and a few things in the back. Just carrying two people opens up the rear cargo area to almost 55 cubic feet of cargo space.Â
How does the Lexus NX look?
The Lexus NX features the world-famous spindle grille that fronts all modern Lexus vehicles. Distinctive in its approach to automotive design, it is like no other vehicle in the world. The rest of the NX body is equally distinctive. From the boomerang signals around the car to the LED lanterns that light the way, it is clear that a lot of attention to detail has gone into the design and execution of the NX. A matrix grille adds a unique appearance that sets the tone for what's to come.
Creased sides add interest across the body panels, heightened several inches by cladding at all four corners of the NX. Add exclusive chromed alloy wheels for a truly unique view. The Lexus NX F-Sport goes even further, with a tighter suspension, F-Sport badging and other sporting features to differentiate it from other run-of-the-mill CUVs.
What about inside the NX?
Inside the Lexus NX is some of the best stuff on earth! Lexus is well-known for its world-class interiors and the NX is no different. With interior parts that mimic the NX's exterior lines, buyers will find many features that help set the NX apart from many others in the Compact CUV segment.Â
Besides form-fitting bucket seats, other unique items help make up the interior of this good-looking compact segment-buster. At the top of the dashboard is an 8-inch infotainment display that sits above the center console, controlled by Lexus's revised Remote Touch Interface. Recently redesigned, we think it's much easier to control than the previous version.
Touchpoints throughout the Lexus NX cabin are covered with padding to ease a long ride while simultaneously conveying the feeling of luxury that Lexus is famous for. Inside here, you will feel right at home.
Standard equipment is plentiful on the new Lexus NX at Lexus of Milwaukee. Such standbys include 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, Satellite Radio, dual-zone climate controls, and a ten-way power-adjustable driver's seat make up just a part of the accouterments. As a bonus, there are advanced safety features that are part of the Lexus Safety System 2.0+ suite.
Also on-board, you'll find a standard infotainment system with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
The NX F-Sport includes exclusive F-Sport badging, front sport seats, paddle shift levers, a more agile sport suspension system, and aluminum pedals in the cockpit.Â
The NX 300h Hybrid includes standard all-wheel-drive, a power-adjustable steering column and Wi-Fi hotspot.Â
For option lovers, you can add a power sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, hands-free tailgate, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, power-folding rear seats and Qi Wireless charging.Â
Finally, the NX's available navigation system includes a 10.3-inch high-definition screen, a 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, and Lexus Enform, which adds iHeart Radio, Bing, Yelp and other applications.
Behind the wheel
Luxury lies at every turn with the Lexus NX 300 and NX 300h. Start with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, which is standard on all models. The Lexus NX 300h hybrid is standard with Lexus all-wheel-drive. The ride in either vehicle is sublime despite being a small vehicle.
Power from the turbocharged 2.0-liter delivers smoothly and rapidly and will display some grunt, despite the fact you are inside a Lexus. As you know, the Lexus brand is known for its passionate attention to details like noise suppression and more. But it's all here, regardless.Â
