One of Lexus's best-selling midsized sedans, the Lexus ES (for sale at Lexus of Milwaukee) features superb build quality, a quiet ride, plenty of oomph and spectacular resale value. That begs the point, what more could you ask for?

But it wasn't always this way. Following a few years of anonymity, the Lexus ES returns with a bolder look than ever before. Muscular in shape on the outside and roomy on the inside, the new ES offers power and a satisfying sense of purpose. It's why you buy a Lexus in the first place!

What is the Lexus ES? 

Redesigned for 2019, the new Lexus ES is available as a regular gasoline-powered vehicle known as the ES 350 or the hybrid ES 300h. According to several automotive critics, the ES is an absolute bargain that, if it were German, would cost a lot more than it does. 

A choice of two engines powers the Lexus ES. Its standard ES 350 form is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 302 horsepower @ 6,600 rpm and 267 lb-ft of torque, mating to an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is an F-Sport version, that while lacking any extra power, offers Sport S, Sport S+ and Custom drive modes for better drive quality and engagement.

On the other hand, there is the ES 300h hybrid model, with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 176 gasoline ponies @ 5,700 rpm. It is joined by an electric motor that provides 215 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque when combined with the electric motor-generator.

The best part about the ES 300h is its un-hybrid nature. With acceleration as quick as some other so-called performance cars, it leaves its competition literally in the dust. 

Featuring the fastback coupe roofline that is all the rage for sedans these days, the Lexus ES is a good looking car. Long and lean, designers have stretched the wheels as far into the corners as possible. The result is a long and lean machine, with, of course, the Lexus spindle grille. 

In a word, the interior of the Lexus ES is beautiful. There's tons of legroom throughout. In the back, for instance, is nearly 40 inches of legroom. The cabin is filled with high-quality leather and other materials coupled with great color schemes. Tasteful, it most certainly is. 

Twelve point three is an important number string these days. It's 12.3 inches as in a 12.3-inch infotainment display. It's the size of the display that sits atop the center console. It is controlled by a center-mounted touchpad, which allows quick connection to the audio, navigation and cellular phone systems you will use while driving. The ES also includes Apple CarPlay, which is easy to use in its way. 

In the ES 300h hybrid, the thoughtful design has placed the lithium-ion batteries below the rear seat. As a result, the trunk space of 16.7 cubic feet in the ES 300h is the same as the ES 350.

The Lexus ES comes in several distinct trim levels. They begin at Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury and F-Sport. The ES 300h is available in 300h, the Luxury version and Ultra Luxury models. There is a trim level for nearly every buyer.
