The Lexus LX 570 is one of the most capable vehicles on or off the road today. With enough guts to hit the Dakar Rally, it can take you to the World's remote regions and back again. But just what is it that makes the LX 570 so tough? Read on and then stop by Lexus of Milwaukee for a test drive. 

Reliability, thy name is Lexus. The Lexus LX570 is a five or-up-to eight-passenger luxury SUV from the Lexus luxury division of Toyota. Built tough, it utilizes an old-school body on frame layout, which, in this case, is anything but old. 

This behemoth comes from an all-aluminum 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque. It routes through an 8-speed automatic transmission and puts the power to the pavement via a full-time four-wheel-drive system with various drive modes. A locking center and rear differential with low-range gearing enable this Lexus SUV to handle any kind of terrain, whether paved or not. Oh, and while you are out and decide to, say, buy a boat or a travel trailer, you can tow it all the way home, as long as it weighs 7,000 pounds or less. 

One of our favorite parts of the LX 570 is the Multi-Terrain system. This standard feature on the LX 570 allows a driver to select five off-road settings, including Rock, Rock and Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock or Mud and Sand. It can help to get you out of almost any rough situation.

Crawl control is also here and helps control the LX as it negotiates rocks, gravel roads, hills and more. Utilizing automatic throttle and brake controls allow the LX 570 to crawl up and down hills with the driver never using the gas or the brakes. That system, combined with active height control, allows the LX to raise an additional three inches for extra clearance if needed. It's all done automatically. 

Sumptuous leather and wood set the tone for the interior of the new Lexus LX 570. The dashboard is composed of a huge 12.3-inch with room for navigation audio and quad-zone automatic climate control settings. 

The second row can move back and forth for extra legroom and reclining space. An optional rear-seat entertainment system is complete with a pair of 11.6-inch screens. A pair of headphones help keep shows for the younger set with the younger set! 

An optional third row of seats holds three more passengers with near school bus proportions. Clearly, we are kidding, but that's a lot of people inside! On the other hand, when you had to carry things other than people, the LX offers 16.3 cubic feet behind the third row. Fold those forward and that space grows to 41.6 cubic feet. Finally, lean the second row forward and the total space grows to 53.7 cubic feet. 

It will likely take you an hour or two to walk around it. 

Again, we are saying in jest what is hard to ignore: This is a big SUV. From the '570's front with Lexus's trademarked spindle grille to the two-box design and two-piece tailgate, there's no getting around the fact the LX offers great visibility for the driver and passengers. 

An available Sport Package is a new option with a refreshed grille, new bumper, new rear fascia and new 21-inch alloy wheels.

The list of standard items on this biggest Lexus is plentiful. With no actual trim levels, would you expect anything less? Standard equipment includes the Lexus Safety System Plus suite of safety features, navigation, a 12.3-inch display, leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, Amazon Alexa compatibility and front and rear parking sensors. There's also folding and reclining 2nd-row seating, quad-zone climate control and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. That's everything you need to get started. 

The Sport Package we mentioned earlier is exclusively available with the three-row, eight-passenger LX. 

The LX Luxury package now joins it with perforated semi-aniline interior leather, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats, and a heated wood and leather-covered steering wheel. There are now four projector door lamps and a four-zone Climate Concierge that monitors the separate climate zones making up the interior.

Despite the rugged, truck-like platform that underpins the Lexus LX 570, its ride is nothing close to that of a truck. Cushioned with an adaptable suspension that can raise or lower depending on where you choose to cruise, it's the perfect around town go-getter that is up to nearly every task. 

Power from the 5.7-liter naturally aspirated engine is elegantly smooth as it sails off from start.
